Plants in Pots

At Winter Hill Tree Farm, we grow our plants in pots so that you can plant our stock at any time of the year.

Because they are grown in pots all our plants have a fibrous root system that is immediately able to support the plant that you are buying, unlike bare rooted trees, which can only be planted in winter.

All our trees and hedging shrubs are sold in containers much the same as any nursery you visit. The only difference is that ours are much larger! This means you are in effect buying time, you can have an instant effect for your garden now.

All that is required to ensure a long and healthy life for your plant is a regime of deep watering and regular fertilizer. Because Winter Hill's trees are root pruned at each stage of growth, your tree has a large surface area of roots, all these roots are taking up moisture from the soil thereby utilising all the moisture available in the soil.  A bare rooted tree has minimal roots for water uptake. The frequency of watering will depend largely on your site conditions and will certainly be less than smaller pot sizes.
